Last week's teaser hinted strongly at it and a post on the official PlayStation blog (and the Sega blog) confirms that classic Genesis platformer Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse will be coming to PS3 multiple platforms this summer. (Note: the original version of this post said the game would be a PS3 exclusive. It will be available on Xbox Live and for PC as well.)
The post calls the upcoming release a re-imagining and says that Sega's Australian development team is working with the original game's director on the new version:
We have also been working very closely with the director of the original game, who is now at Disney Interactive. We are having a blast working with her to realize many of the elements that were intended for the original game, but couldn't be achieved until now due to the technical limitations of previous generation consoles. If you have played the original game, you will also see that we have kept intact many of the major iconic elements of the game that helped define this groundbreaking game at the time of its original release.
Over the last few years Mickey Mouse's last few outings in the Epic Mickey games haven't met with the warmest of receptions. But, since it's being built on the foundations of a fondly remembered game, things could be different for Castle of Illusion HD. We'll see when it comes out in the next few months.
Update: The re-make isn't exclusive to Sony's console. A Sega blog post says that Castle of Illusion HD will be a digital download for Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Network, and Windows PC.
- Mood: Joy
- Reading: Goofy comics
- Watching: Adventure Time
Still not as exciting as DuckTales and Mega Man 1 getting remakes.
I would like to get it but, my computer is a mac. Damnit!
Man! I don't have any of those consoles!
I would love to play that
So then there IS still Epic Mickey games being made?
It coming to PlayStation Network as well. That's cool. I have a PlayStation Network account because I have a PS3 at home and it been hooked to the internet for a little over 2 years now.
